  On April 10, 2026, the Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan conducted a training session within the framework of the project “Strengthening the resilience of Central Asian countries through promoting regional cooperation in the assessment of high-mountain snow and glacier systems for the development of integrated approaches to sustainable development and climate change adaptation" (GEF–UNDP–UNESCO)
  During the training, the Director and specialists of the Institute delivered opening remarks and presentations. Key topics included remote sensing of the Earth, natural hazards, as well as hydrology and meteorology.
The main objective of the project is to enhance regional cooperation among Central Asian countries in the study of high-mountain snow and glacier systems, as well as to develop scientifically grounded approaches to sustainable development and climate change adaptation.
The training brought together experts, researchers, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and develop coordinated solutions to climate change challenges in mountainous regions.
Participants included representatives of government institutions, master’s students, and university students, including:
• Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan
• Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan
• Agency for Hydrometeorology under the Committee for Environmental Protection of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan
• Tajik National University
• Tajik Technical University named after Academician M.S. Osimi
• Center for Glacier Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
The Institute plans to further expand cooperation with scientific and governmental organizations within the framework of the project, including through seminars, consultations, and joint research initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable scientific development and research activities.
