The primary objective of the event is to assess drought risk management across the five Central Asian countries — Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan — through Drought Risk and Resilience Assessments (DRRA) and multi-stakeholder dialogues.
Drought is one of the most significant and recurring climate risks in Central Asia, with far-reaching impacts on water resources, agriculture, and socio-economic stability. This initiative aims to support countries in understanding the scale and severity of drought-related risks and to lay the groundwork for long-term resilience.
Key outcomes of these dialogues include five national DRRA briefs for Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as one regional (transboundary) DRRA brief; five national dialogues and one regional dialogue on drought; stakeholder mapping and institutional analysis of drought preparedness systems; and recommendations on priority measures and investment directions to strengthen drought resilience, among others.
